Dora Alilian Sorenson was born December 31, 1913 in Montevideo,
MN, to Rasmus and Selma (Nelson) Sorenson. At a young age, her
family moved from Minnesota across the prairie to southwestern North
Dakota near New England. Dora graduated from New England High
School in 1934. After high school, she moved to Dickinson and worked
for a physician and his family.

She met Al Huncovsky in Dickinson and they were married on
September 26, 1937. Their first years were spent in Dickinson. They moved to Bismarck in 1939 where they remained for their married life.

Shortly after their marriage, Al took up golfing and Dora soon found herself on the golf course as well. She developed a lifelong passion for the game. She golfed in most state golf tournaments over the years. She was inducted into the North Dakota Women’s Golf Association Hall of Fame in 1982. She had the honor of playing with women’s leading professional golfer Patty Berg in 1970. Over the course of her career she had four holes-in-one. She was state women’s runner-up and won many local golf tournaments. Her brother Denis always kidded her about playing pasture pool, never calling it golf. Many good laughs were heard at family gatherings when he brought up her pasture pool awards.

Dora and Al enjoyed traveling and visiting most states. They visited Hawaii twice and enjoyed an ocean cruse for their 50th wedding anniversary. Her niece, Jean and husband Les Hogan who were married on Al and Dora’s anniversary date, joined them on the cruise.

Dora is survived by her sisters-in-law, Jo Huncovsky and Vi Curn both of Dickinson, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; her parents; her brothers, Delver, Devene, Denis and Denit and sisters, Dena Kunze, Della Kanan and Doris Moe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
